Sindhi Phulka Perfection: Discovering Chehro Fulko - A Delightful Breakfast

Sindhi Chehro Fulko, also known as Sindhi Breakfast Phulka, is a traditional breakfast dish in Sindhi cuisine. It is a type of flatbread that is prepared using wheat flour and cooked on a tawa (griddle). Here's a simple recipe to make Sindhi Chehro Fulko:

Ingredients for preparation

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • Water, as needed
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil or ghee (clarified butter) for cooking

Instructions for cooking:
  • In a large bowl, mix whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt.
  • Gradually add water and knead the flour to make a soft and smooth dough. It shouldn't be too dry or sticky.
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into small balls.
  • Roll each ball into a thin, circular flatbread using a rolling pin. Aim for a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
  • Heat a flat tawa or griddle on medium-high heat.
  • Cook the flatbread on the tawa for about a minute until bubbles form on the surface.
  • Flip the flatbread and cook the other side for another minute until light brown spots appear.
  • Transfer the flatbread to a direct flame (low to medium-low heat) and gently press it down with a cloth until it puffs up.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls to make more flatbreads.
  • Optionally, you can apply a little ghee or oil on the surface of the flatbread for added flavor.

Serve the hot and freshly made Sindhi Chehro Fulko with your favorite curry, vegetable dish, or pickle. Enjoy this traditional Sindhi breakfast flatbread!
